The Rug Company, the leading name for contemporary handmade rugs, has collaborated with Tara Bernerd, Chairman and Head of Design at Target Living. Bernerd’s trademark sense of colour and attention to detail has translated effortlessly into the two dimensional with a collection of exquisite handmade rugs and cushions.

Understated and elegant, the timeless geometric pattern of the hand knotted Honeycomb rug is complimented by the muted colour palette. Tara’s Target, a finely hand woven tapestry, depicts concentric circles of targets overlayed on each other, in contrasting hues of rich maroons and neutrals. The striking Papillon rug pays homage to the delicate form of the butterfly, as it appears to float above the cream background. Hand knotted in Tibetan wool and silk, the wings of the exquisite design are enhanced by the lustre of the silk yarns.

Bernerd’s new ‘Tattoo’ cushion collection epitomises her attention to detail and decorative opulence. Each cushion depicts a tattoo motif – hearts, daggers and flags – in cream leather and studs on a sumptuous velvet background.

Bernerd says of the collection, ‘Colour, texture and detail are my passions and working with The Rug Company has been the ultimate in expressing this by creating a range of interior finishes, as there is no doubt rugs and cushions impact interiors dramatically. I have reflected my more serene side with Honeycomb, using subtle creams and mossy greys, in a simple graphic. Tattoo brings a little attitude and shares an edgier look, using velvets, leather and studs. The collection has been an energetic and fulfilling project, each piece tells a different story.”

With their classic forms and sophisticated colour palettes, the collection is an elegant expression of Bernerd’s vision for interiors. Each piece is handmade by skilled artisans using traditional craft skills and the highest quality yarns.
