The Rug Company, the leading name for contemporary handmade rugs, has created its first ever collection for children, designed exclusively by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. Reinterpreting their unique vision for children, but retaining an adult appeal, the design duo have conceived a four piece rug collection that keeps playful charm at the forefront of the design. ‘Owl’, ‘Fishes’, ‘Snake’ and ‘Butterfly’ each depict likeable animals on a plain background, using bright hues and precise detailing to create simple, endearing designs. Each design reflects the character it depicts; the single owl on a twilight background hints at its characteristic solitude. The snake sliding off the side of the rug reflects its ever-moving nature. The poise of the butterflies reveals how they can delicately gather on any surface at any angle. The fish rug shows the fish swimming together in a shoal unrestricted in the turquoise sea. Every rug is hand knotted by highly skilled artisans using the finest Tibetan wool, meaning that each exquisitely crafted piece is made to last forever. Designed to be loved by parents as much as their children, the rugs will not only withstand years of lively children’s play, but the timeless designs will undoubtedly become heirlooms to be passed down for generations.
